Sacred Legacy
By Helen Ji
The photo exhibition, Sacred Legacy, was held in Authony S.W. Lau Exhibition Hall, University of Macau Library (UML), displaying numerous valuable photos regarding the North American Indian.
By taking those photos, Edward Sherriff Curtis, America’s outstanding photographer and ethnographer, created a significant record, which presented more than 80 of North America’s nations. These priceless photos displaying in this exhibition not only showed the remarkable differences among Native American people, their culture and history but also revealed the diversity of American society.
These extraordinary works, first published between 1907 and 1930, had experienced decades of obscurity. However, they were exhibited in Macau from April 11 to May 9, 2008, to prove their own irreplaceable value. This exhibition was organized by Consulate General of the United States in Hong Kong and Macau as well as UML.
