Four Years' Time...
by Micaela Pun
Four years time...
Edison Chen's sex photos scandal;
Ao Man Long, the Macau SAR Government Secretary, is convicted of corruption;
Rare Clashes during The Macau May Day demonstration;
The National Day scooter demonstration of dissatisfaction with the new Road Traffic Law;
Mainland Tourists in conflict with Macau police;
The Macau Banco Delta Asia is designated as a “primary money laundering concern”
by the U.S. Treasury.
They are what you should have heard.
Four years time...
Have you gained weight? What's your bust-waist-hip?
Have you changed your hair style? Do you love it?
Have you found a job? Does it fit you?
Have you found your lover?
Have you taken a trip?
Have you had any savings? How will you use it? Where have you spent it?
How many times have you cried?
How many films have you watched?
They are what you should know.
Four years time...
Have your parents gained weight? What are their bust-waist-hip measurements?
How many times have they cut their hair?
How many lines and crow's feet have your parents got?
How much have they spent on you?
How many times have you said “I love you” to your parents?
How many times have you find your parents for lunch?
How many calls have you made to your parents?
How many films have you watched with them?
Do you know?
Four years time, I can only tell my ideal bust-waist-hip is 34-24-35. My weight changes like the stock price. I always change my hair style for “Women love Beauty”, “Women are fickle”. I only recognize my parents got more lines on their forehead. I don't know how often they cut their hair. I don't know how much they spent on me but the budget for raising a child is four million dollars. I have found my lover but he is not the one who loves me most. Yet, I'm sure I have said “I Love You” to him most but not to my parents. I blame my lover for not calling me more than once a day but being annoyed for my parents calling me more than once. I go and watch movie at least once a month but I have not watched a movie even once a year with my parents.
Four years and another four years, age by age, time rolls by, and never returns.
In these four years, I have gone through a lot, joy and sorrow, harsh and smooth.
I have lost a lot, big and small, tough and simple.
I have gained a lot, birth and death, study and work.
In these four years, the thing which affects me most is the accusation against my father.
