Harmonic Silver Jubilee Celebration By Claudia Cristina Pereira Carion
In the evening of October 21, harmonic melodies flowed out of the Cultural Center of the University of Macau (UM). The 25th Anniversary Campus Concert began. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of UM, the UM Choir joined hands with the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) and AUF Concert Chorus (Philippines) to perform in an astounding music show for members of the University. In the auditorium full of students, teachers, and staff members of UM, the UM Choir performed an Italian song called, "Gaudeamus Igitur", the AUF Concert Chorus sang famous songs by The Carpenters as a medley, and the MYSO played the renowned "Phantom of the Opera". The impressive performance resulted in supportive applauses and loud cheering. For such a grand concert, it takes a lot of training and hard work. Cecilia Cai, a 4th year Accounting student of UM and member of the UM Choir, said, "We usually train five hours a week, but for this event, we trained a bit more, the whole day yesterday and today." Cai said the UM Choir went to the Philippines and Malaysia for special training, as this concert was considered a big show for them. |
