Parking headache for motorcyclists
By Mimi Lei
A lack of parking spaces for motorcycles
seems to be a big problem for motorcyclists in Macau.
Anson Fong Kit Lun, a university
student who has a motorcycle for three years, complains, "It's so hard
to find a parking spot so I usually end up parking my motorcycle on sidewalks."
However, parking on sidewalks is
against the law of Macau SAR Government and owners of the motorcycles may
be fined MOP$200 each time.
Motorcycles became popular in Macau
over the past decade. The number of motorcycles increased more than 50
per cent in the last 10 years according to the Statistic and Census Services
(DSEC) of Macau. In every seven Macau residents, there is one possesses
a motorcycle according to the last year's figure.
"I think that the Government should
restrict the number of new motorcycles as well as allocate more parking
spaces for motorcycles," Rosa Lo, a university student, suggests.
