Behind "Everything in the Garden"
By Mandy Siu
A first-class director in China,
Wang Xiaoying was invited to manage the drama " Everything in the Garden."
He felt that Macau artists were very professional and very hardworking.
"Most of the artists have a day-time
job, they can also be so serious and professional when they practice the
drama. This really makes me feel moved," Wang said.
Wang was also impressed that each
player could remember all the scripts although they are just part-time
actors and actresses.
Wang's play is one of the shows to
be staged in the 12th Macau Arts Festival which will be held between March
10-25.
Wang expected that his group could
do their best.
They started practicing and rehearsing
the drama since February 1. The whole acting performance is now well
prepared. It just needs to be rehearsed with music and in costumes.
"Everything in the Garden" is based
on a well-known composition of Edward Albee, one of the most important
contemporary dramatists in the United States. It depicts how money
could ruin people's moral standards.
The drama contains eleven roles,
which are played by outstanding artists selected from several local drama
groups.
The drama will be staged at the Cultural
Institute of Macau between March 17-18.
The annual Macau Arts Festival will
mainly introduce Chinese operas, dramas, concerts, western dramas, and
films. It is also an opportunity to enjoy the combination of Eastern
and Western cultures. Each night it will feature different programmes.
