Rector's Words

Thanks to the wise leadership of my predecessors and the hard work of all the staff and students over the past three decades, the University of Macau (UM) has attained impressive achievements in teaching, research and community service. Indeed it has become one of the best comprehensive universities in Macao.
Now UM is on the threshold of a new era, where a bright future is beckoning. In terms of hardware, the new campus will bring bigger space and improved facilities to allow UM to better pursue its educational values. In terms of software, UM has adopted an innovative education model that consists of four components, namely discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education, with the aim of realizing whole-person education and nurturing outstanding graduates for society. UM will build on its solid foundation and strive to scale new heights in the future. We will continue to improve undergraduate education, push forward the construction of the new campus, and progress systematically towards the goal of becoming a world-class university. Of course the road to achieving that goal will be a grueling one. But it is my firm belief that UM can carry on its fine tradition and innovate along the way, that it will continue to fulfill its mission and make contributions to the development of Macao and human society.
Our slogan for the 30th anniversary is "Three decades, a fruitful journey; UM's future, let's build it in unity." On behalf of the more than 8000 staff and students of UM, I hereby invite friends and alumni from all walks of life to be a part of a series of upcoming celebratory activities for the 30th anniversary. Together, let's cheer UM on as it embarks on a journey towards new milestones.
