The University of\nMacau (UM) and Dr. Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation (SHMDF) jointly\nheld the 2024 Distinguished Scholars Forum as part of the \u2018Set Sail for New\nHorizons, Create the Future\u2019 Grant. Held in a hybrid format, the forum brought\ntogether renowned experts and scholars to share their latest research findings\nin health sciences and big data applications in healthcare.<\/p>\n\n
Speaking at the event,\nGe Wei, vice rector of UM, said that the Distinguished Scholars Forum showcased\ninnovative research, enhanced public understanding of health sciences and\nChinese medicine, and promoted research translation for the benefit of\nhumanity. As an international public comprehensive university in Macao, UM\nactively supports the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development strategy\nthrough its \u20183+3+3+3\u2019 strategic research layout. To seize the new opportunities\npresented by the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the development\nof UM\u2019s campus in the Cooperation Zone, UM will continue to expand its student\nbody, enhance its international influence, and inject new vitality into the\ndevelopment of Macao and the Greater Bay Area.<\/p>\n\n
In his speech, Huen\nWing Ming, chairman of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of SHMDF, said\nthat the forum not only provided a platform for experts and scholars to present\ntheir latest research in health sciences and big data in healthcare and the\nrelevant applications, but also offered researchers and students opportunities\nto interact with renowned scholars and explore potential collaborations.<\/p>\n\n
The forum featured guest\nspeaker Ye Keqiang, chair professor at Shenzhen University of Advanced\nTechnology, who discussed the development of a next-generation diagnostic probe\nfor Parkinson\u2019s disease. Associate Professors Lu Jiahong and Ouyang Defang in the\nInstitute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), Professor Kwok Hang Fai in the\nFaculty of Health Sciences, and Associate Professor Jia Yanwei in the Institute\nof Microelectronics at UM also gave detailed reports on the progress and\nresults of their funded research projects. The forum concluded with the closing\nremarks by Li Peng, deputy director of ICMS.<\/p>\n\n
During the event, Chairman\nHuen Wing Ming, Michael Ching, director of operations (Macao) of SHMDF, and Fok\nKuan Hang, research director of SHMDF, exchanged views with Prof Li Peng and\nthe funded professors on various research projects.<\/p>
