The University of Macau (UM) held a lecture on environmental protection in China’s 14th Five Year Plan, as part of the activities in celebration of its 40th anniversary. Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu was the speaker. During the lecture, Huang analysed the important measures on environmental protection in the 14th Five-Year Plan and the cooperation between the mainland and Macao in this area. The event attracted a full-house audience, which comprised representatives from government departments, UM faculty and students, and members of the public.
A delegation led by Huang Jianfa, deputy party secretary and head of the United Front Work Department of Zhejiang province, visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by Rector Yonghua Song, Librarian Wu Jianzhong, Rector’s Office Director Wong Kei, and Global Affairs Office Interim Director Wang Ruibing.
A delegation from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, led by its president Ye Meilan, visited the University of Macau (UM) on 11 Nov and was warmly received by Rector Yonghua Song. In the company of Lau Wai Meng, director of the Post and Telecommunications Bureau, the delegation visited the University Gallery, during which Rector Song told the guests about UM’s history, academic structure, campus facilities, development direction, and the four characteristics that make UM a unique university.
The University of Macau (UM) held a lecture titled ‘Marine Monitoring and Forecasting Systems for the Greater Bay Area’ on 9 Nov, as part of university lecture series in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the university. Chen Dake, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and director of Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), was the speaker. Yonghua Song, rector of UM and director of the university’s State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (IOTSC), gave a welcome speech.
A delegation led by Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao SAR and deputy director of the administrative committee of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, visited Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute on 5 November and was warmly received by University of Macau (UM) Rector Yonghua Song and Vice Rector Xu Jian.
A delegation from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, led by its deputy director Zheng Xincong, visited the University of Macau (UM). The delegation was warmly received by UM representatives, including University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng and UM Rector Yonghua Song.
The University of Macau (UM) held a lecture titled ‘The Year 2020: Thoughts on Technological Innovation and Social Systems Engineering’ on 22 July, as part of the University Lecture Series in celebration of the 40th anniversary. The keynote speaker was Zhao Xinli, a second-class professional technician in the Ministry of Science and Technology, a fellow of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and a senior consultant to the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy at Tsinghua University.

Wu Jianping, a professor in Tsinghua University’s School of Civil Engineering and director of Tsinghua-Cambridge-MIT ‘Future Transport’ Research Center’, was the keynote speaker. The talked attracted a large audience, including UM faculty and students, as well as members of the general public.

Ben Shenglin, dean of the International Business School and dean of the Academy of Internet Finance, Zhejiang University, was the keynote speaker. The talk attracted many UM faculty members and students, representatives of the government, finance professionals, and members of the general public.

Wu Lixin, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao), was the keynote speaker. The talk attracted a large audience.
Chen Dake, director of the Southern Laboratory of Ocean Science and Engineering in Guangdong (Zhuhai), who is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to visit the University of Macau (UM). During the visit, both parties exchanged views on collaboration in building the lab and further broadening the depth and breadth of cooperation.

Zhong Nanshan, a renowned pulmonologist and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and Li Lanjuan, also a member of the CAE and a famous epidemiologist, recently visited the University of Macau (UM) on 30 November, 2020 to learn more about the university’s development and discussed opportunities for collaboration.

The University of Macau organised a lecture titled ‘Advances in Autonomous Driving’, as part of the University Lecture Series. Dr Zhang Yaqin, president of the Chinese internet giant Baidu, was the keynote speaker. During the event, Zhang talked about the opportunities and challenges brought by autonomous driving from technological, industrial, and policy perspectives.
The University of Macau State Key Lab of the Internet of Things for Smart City recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Center for Space Remote Sensing Demonstration under China National Space Administration (CNSA), becoming the first institute in Hong Kong and Macao to collaborate with a space remote sensing scientific demonstration unit.
The University of Macau held a lecture on smart cities, as part of the University Lecture Series. Six prominent experts in the field discussed the different aspects of smart city development, including big data, urban security, the Internet of Things, future transport, smart structure, and cloud computing on 17 June, 2019.
The University of Macau (UM) held an inauguration ceremony for a laboratory of brain and cognitive sciences, jointly established with the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on 20 March, 2019. Yonghua Song, rector of UM, and Xu Ruiming, director of the Institute of Biophysics, CAS, signed a collaboration agreement on the establishment of the lab.
The University of Macau held a talk titled ‘Visual Information Processing and Inference in the Brain Without Awareness’. He Sheng, a researcher at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and director of the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, was the keynote speaker.
The University of Macau (UM) held a ceremony for the signing of a collaborative framework agreement with the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-IA), and a joint academic workshop on 28 February, 2019. The agreement aims to maximise the research capacity of both UM and the CAS-IA in artificial intelligence (AI) and brain-inspired intelligence, promote their research development in related scientific fields, integrate their academic strengths and resources, as well as initiate innovative collaborative research in AI and brain-inspired intelligence.
