At the invitation of the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians, Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), attended the 2nd Global Innovation & Technology Summit held in Hong Kong. He also shared UM’s philosophy and practices in promoting educational and research innovation in the sessions themed ‘Leadership Perspectives in Advancing Educational and Research Innovation’ and ‘Shaping the Greater Bay Area as an International Education Hub’.

The 2nd Global Innovation & Technology Summit was organised by the Greater Bay Area Association of Academicians and was attended by presidents of renowned universities and senior government officials at home and abroad. During the summit, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on five topics, namely ‘Government Strategies to Accelerate Global Educational Partnerships’, ‘Leadership Perspectives on the Future of Education’, ‘Fostering Global Partnerships in Higher Education’, ‘Leadership Perspectives in Advancing Educational and Research Innovation’, and ‘Shaping the Greater Bay Area as an International Education Hub’.

In his speech, Song said that in the course of promoting talent cultivation and research innovation in universities, university leaders should not only assume their responsibilities and take on a leading role, but also have the vision to serve the wider community. Using ‘SERVE’ as a framework, he explained UM’s educational philosophy in five aspects, namely strategy, engagement, resource, value, and environment, and shared UM’s practical and exploratory experiences in educational and research innovation.
