The University of Macau (UM) today (25 November) held a talk titled ‘Establishing a Technological Framework of Carbon Neutrality and Its Prospects’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Huang Jing, director general of the Administrative Center for China’s Agenda 21 of the Ministry of Science and Technology, vice president of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development, and a member of the National Specialists’ Committee on Climate Change, was the guest speaker. Combining both virtual and in-person elements, the talk attracted many UM faculty members, students, and members of the general public. During the talk, the speaker discussed the efforts made by China to achieve carbon neutrality and how to build the relevant technological framework. In his welcome speech, UM Vice Rector Michael Hui said that UM established the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC), under which the smart energy research group aims to build clean, low-carbon, safe, and high-efficient smart energy systems to contribute to energy conservation and sustainable development. The Q&A session of the talk was moderated by Zhang Hongcai, assistant professor in the SKL-IOTSC, whose main research interest is smart energy. UM University Council Chair Lam Kam Seng also attended the talk and interacted with the speaker.
