Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), recently participated in several activities at Tsinghua University in celebration of its 110th anniversary, including the Global Forum of University Presidents 2021, during which he shared his views with more than 100 university presidents from around the world on how universities can move towards greater openness.
According to Rector Song’s remark in a roundtable discussion session, moving towards greater openness has always been the direction of higher education development in China, but given the new environment and situation, this task will be difficult and challenging in the future. To fully achieve the purpose and meaning of openness, universities must redefine the concept, form, and practice of openness, and must promote openness in a more systematic and comprehensive manner. Rector Song also participated in a sub-forum of the event and shared UM’s efforts in creating a multicultural campus. He also met with Chen Xu, party secretary of Tsinghua University, to whom he expressed his best wishes for the university’s 110th anniversary and conveyed his hope to strengthen collaboration between UM and Tsinghua.
Titled ‘Innovate for the Future: Vision and New Mission for Universities’, the Global Forum of University Presidents 2021 provided a platform for university presidents to discuss how their institutions can lead the way in a world of change, embrace opportunities and prepare for challenges, and move towards greater openness, integration, and resilience.
Rector Yonghua Song also attended the celebration ceremony of the 110th anniversary of Tsinghua University, in the company of Ruibing Wang, interim director of the UM Global Affairs Office.
