In line with the Macao SAR government’s policy of building a platform for nurturing outstanding talent and to respond to the needs of social development, the University of Macau (UM) will launch three new master’s degree programmes in the 2021/2022 academic year. The programmes will cover professional fields of financial technology and microelectronics, with the aim of nurturing more high-quality talent for the Macao society to fill the gaps in local industries.
The three new master’s programmes are as follows: Master of Science in Financial Technology (FinTech) Programme, Master of Science in Microelectronics Programme, and Master of Philosophy in Microelectronics. Below are brief descriptions of the programmes:
l Master of Science in Financial Technology (FinTech) Programme: The programme covers a wide range of areas, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital money and electronic payment, big data processing and analysis, portfolio management, quantitative trading and high frequency trading, financial risk management, and legal regulation, to suit students with different interests and development directions. Even students with engineering and science backgrounds can take elective courses in economics and finance to enhance their knowledge.
l Master of Science in Microelectronics Programme: The programme covers various areas in microelectronics design, such as analog integrated circuits (IC), wireless/wireline, analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog conversion, power management, sensor/internet of things, and digital IC, with the aim of training professionals and senior engineers in the field of microelectronics IC to address the shortage of talent in China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Students will receive engineering training through internships and design projects to develop their knowledge and skills needed in the field.
l Master of Philosophy in Microelectronics Programme: The programme covers various research areas in microelectronics, such as analog IC, wireless/wireline, analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog conversion, power management, sensors/internet of things, and digital IC, with the aim of training research scholars in the field of microelectronic IC. The programme allows students to focus on research in advanced microelectronic IC and provides training that combines theory and practice to prepare them for research careers in the future, such as doctoral studies. The programme also encourages students to conduct innovative research and publish in top conferences and journals.
The above programmes are now open for applications. The application deadline for the Master of Science in Financial Technology (FinTech) Programme is 31 March, while the application deadline for the Master of Science in Microelectronics Programme and the Master of Philosophy in Microelectronics Programme is 5 March.
