The University of Macau (UM) English Debating Team recently finished the Malaysia Asian British Parliamentary Debating Championship as grand finalists after beating teams from top universities such as Peking University and the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, becoming the Chinese team with the best results at this competition.
Approximately 400 debaters participated in this competition. Zhou Yongyi and Li Jianeng in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) were grand finalists in the English as Foreign Language (EFL) category. Liew Fook Khei in the Faculty of Science and Technology and Tang Cheok Man in the FSS were open partial octo-finalists. They were ranked the ninth and tenth best EFL speakers, respectively.
Other members of the UM Debating Team with outstanding performance include Wu Chunxuan, Wong Kuok On, and Gao Jiachen in the Faculty of Business Administration, as well as Hoi Chon Kit in the Faculty of Education.
