The University of Macau (UM) will hold an academic forum titled ‘The Prospect of Research in Humanities, Social Science, Business, Law and Education’ on Thursday (Aug 8). The event aims to explore opportunities for integration and collaboration between different academic disciplines as well as future development prospects. All are welcome.

During the event, four scholars of different disciplines will give keynote speeches. They are Prof Alan Chan, vice president (alumni and advancement) and Toh Puan Mahani Idris Daim Chair Professor of Humanities from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Prof Hong Yingyi, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Marketing, Chinese University of Hong Kong; Prof Angela Leung, director of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences, who is also chair professor of history and Joseph Needham-Philip Mao Professor in Chinese History, Science, and Civilisation, University of Hong Kong; as well as Prof Yu Xingzhong, Anthony W and Lulu C Wang Professor in Chinese Law, Cornell University. The forum was moderated by Prof Billy So, vice rector (student affairs) and chair professor of history of UM.

The forum aims to explore interdisciplinary integration and collaboration in line with the society’s rapid development and the pursuing of innovative ideas, which has become a new direction in academic research. The speakers will discuss how the knowledge of humanities can be applied to research in other fields beyond the scope of arts and humanities. The discussion hopes to bring in new perspectives and research directions to members of the academic circle.
