National People’s Congress (NPC) Law Committee Chairman Qiao Xiaoyang today (9 May) gave a talk, “The Relationship between the Constitution of PRC and the Basic Law of Macao SAR”, on the University of Macau’s (UM) new campus. 

The talk was co-organised the Macau Basic Law Promotion Association and UM to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law of the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s
Republic of China
as well as to increase the public’s understanding and awareness of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy and the Basic Law.

Macau Basic Law Promotion Association Director Chui Sai Cheong, UM Rector Wei Zhao, and NPC Standing Committee Macao SAR Basic Law Committee Deputy Director Zhang Rongshun officiated at the event. The talk was chaired by Lei Pui Lam, member of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee Macao SAR Basic Law Committee and deputy director of the Macau Basic Law Promotion Association. It attracted government officials, Macau Basic Law Promotion Association members, prominent community figures, as well as UM faculty members and students. Qiao also visited UM’s new campus in the company of UM’s University Council Chair Dr. Tse Chi Wai and Rector Wei Zhao.
