Summer holiday is up and running. What are the summer plans of the University of Macau (UM)’s students like? While some students decided to try their hand at summer job, some chose to pack their bags and go explore the world. This year, around 300 UM students joined the Summer Programme organised by UM to see the world in from a different perspective.
“I think Norway is a laid-back country, and my stay there proves me right,” Cui Tianni, a year-4 UM student from the Department of Sociology spoke of her first impression of Norway, where she grabbed the exchange opportunity and attended a four-week class in the Bl Norwegian Business School. Cui also spent time to meet new friends despite the tight class schedule. “I will be going to the very northern part of Norway with my classmates next week to visit the most beautiful village in the world and to experience the polar day,” said Cui, with excitement on her face.
Another UM student who is spending her summer in Europe is Su Baijing. Su, a year-2 student from the Department of Government and Public Administration, chose to go on exchange in Portugal and joined the Leadership and Strategic Knowledge Programme at the ISCTE Business School, University Institute of Lisbon. She is full of curiosity about Portugal and would like to know more about the unique customs and culture of the country. Su said she had made many new friends in Portugal and they were like a family. On weekends, Su would teach her “family members” Chinese and they taught her Portuguese in return. Now, Su can speak basic Portuguese.
The Student Affairs Office of UM organises Summer Programme for students on a regular basis. This year, around 300 students participated in this exchange programme in 18 countries and regions, including Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China. The programme does not only give participants many good memories, but also allow them the opportunity to broaden their horizons and explore the world in a new way.For the full version, please refer to Chinese version.
