Students from Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) of the University of Macau (UM) joined a seven-day academic and cultural exchange trip to Japan and visited the University of Tokyo and Teikyo University. Their visit to Teikyo University is also a return visit under the cooperation agreement signed between UM and Teikyo University.

Led by Sun Sisi, resident fellow of LCWC, ten LCWC students attended a global studies class offered by Teikyo University, where they engaged in in-depth discussions on global gender issues. They also attended an English language class and explored the similarities and differences between China and Japan in terms of education systems, campus life, and career opportunities. Additionally, they taught Chinese to local students, and shared with them Macao’s culture and their campus life at UM. At the University of Tokyo, the UM students visited the library to learn more about the history of the university. They also interacted with students there.

In addition to improving the language skills of the UM students, the exchange trip also allowed them to gain more insights into the different education systems, cultures, and societies of China and Japan. Participating students said that the trip not only broadened their horizons, but also deepened their understanding of the world, enabling them to become global citizens with greater cultural awareness.

As part of the cultural immersion, the UM students also visited iconic areas such as Asakusa, Kamakura and Enoshima to learn more about Japan’s rich Buddhist heritage, culture, and history.
