UM is the only public comprehensive university in Macao. It is ranked in the 301-350 bracket in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020 with a global ranking of No 9 in International Outlook, No 42 in the THE Asia University Rankings, No 60 in the THE Asia-Pacific University Rankings, No 52 in the THE Young University Rankings, and No 387 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020.
UM makes the most of the comprehensiveness and interdisciplinary uniqueness of its academic programmes, while focusing its resources on developing key research areas. The university has established various first-rate research platforms and has devoted considerable effort into interdisciplinary research studies, especially in arts and science subjects, in order to enhance its global influence and international reputation in these fields. Scholarships
In order to nurture high-calibre professionals, the University of Macau (UM) offers scholarships and assistantships for PhD students, who upon admission will receive a monthly allowance of up to MOP 20,000. UM also offers assistantships for master’s students, who upon admission will receive a monthly allowance of up to MOP 8,000.
UM Macao PhD Scholarship (MPDS)
The MPDS provides each awardee with a monthly allowance of MOP 20,000 for a period of up to four years, as well as a conference or research-related travel allowance of up to MOP10,000 per academic year, for a period of up to four years.
UM PhD Assistantship
The assistantship provides each new recipient with a monthly allowance of between MOP 12,500 and MOP14,000, for a period of up to four years.
*PhD students will receive a scholarship or an assistantship depending on their qualifications and academic achievements
UM Master Assistantship
Master’s students can apply for assistantship. Upon successful application, each applicant will receive an allowance of MOP 4,000 or MOP 8,000. The duration and amount of the assistantship will be determined by the supervisor or academic unit concerned.
