The University of Macau (UM) recently held an appreciation reception for the outgoing Vice Rector (Administration) Dr Alex Lai to thank him for his tremendous contributions to UM over the past 15 years, most notably the effort of him and his team to accomplish the new campus project. More than 200 UM staff members attended the event. At the appreciation reception, UM Rector Wei Zhao praised Dr Lai for his enthusiasm and diligence at work and his contributions to UM’s new campus project. Rector Zhao said that Dr Lai probably never published any SCI papers, but he has contributed a lot to the papers published by UM scholars. He added that Dr Lai and his team have put a lot of time and effort into their work, in order to run this university smoothly, and to provide a comfortable learning environment for all UM students. UM Faculty of Education Dean Prof Fan Xitao, Registrar Paul Pang, and Human Resources Office Director Leona Kuan thanked Dr Lai for pushing forward administrative reforms and ensuring a smooth relocation to the new campus. Dr Lai thanked all the colleagues for their support over the years, adding that he will continue to contribute to UM in his new position.
