Knowing the necessity of and the spirit of chivalry behind first aid, 30 students from the University of Macau (UM) Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC) recently earned a 100 per cent first-time pass rate on a first-aid certificate examination offered by Hong Kong St John Ambulance.
Strongly allied to ‘Healthy Living’, one of the core competencies integral to residential living and learning, the presence of well-trained first-aiders safeguards the health of both College residents and UM students and colleagues. And Hong Kong St John Ambulance, a charitable organisation with a long history dating back over a century, was invited to offer the first aid training.
The students were required to complete a five-day intensive course before the exam. Participants who completed 30 hours of lectures and pass a three-hour examination received a first-aid certificate. Joe Cheong, a registered nurse at Hospital Kiang Wu and head of the public relations department of the Nurses Association of Macau, was invited to present the certificates to the students.
