Prof. John A. Williams, an international lighting designer and theatre educator, whose works include the impressive lighting and laser show “A Symphony of Light” in Hong Kong, “Galaxy” in Macao, and “Phuket Fanta Sea” in Thailand, recently visited the University of Macau’s (UM) Moon Chun Memorial (MCM) College and held a sharing session entitled, “Lights, Action Take One”.

Prof. Williams shared some of his works and his professional experience with MCM College students. He also talked about how he had persevered in pursuing his dream of becoming a light technician even after learning he had not been admitted to the theatre school he had applied for. He encouraged the students to persist in the pursuit of their dreams and to never give up.

Prof. Williams has design works all over the world during his successful career in lighting design spanning over 30 years. He has lit over 250 productions worldwide with a string of West End shows, one of which has been transferred to New York’s Broadway. Locally, Prof. Williams has worked with the Chung Ying Theatre Company, the Hong Kong Repertory Company, and the Hong Kong Ballet. One of his works, “A Symphony of Light”, has entered the Guinness World Record as the largest permanent light and sound show.

Prof. Williams also visited UM’s news campus in the company of College Master Prof. Kit Thompson, Dr. Patricia Thompson, Dr. Samuel Choi, Dr. Ray Cheung, and other MCM staff members.
