Every year the University of Macau (UM) provides internship opportunities at well-known companies both at home and abroad through its extensive network of partner institutions, in order to help students experience different cultures and gain practical experience. Over the years a large number of UM students have had internships in countries and regions around the world, including mainland China, Germany, the United States, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta, Greece, Brazil, and Japan. This year two UM students participated in a summer internship programme organised by the China Association for Science and Technology. They felt that mainland China is different from Macao in terms of media system, workplace culture, and pace of life. They say the internships not only allowed them to experience a different culture and to gain valuable experience, but also let them discover something new about themselves.
