On Friday, 28 September, 100,000 Poets for Change took place all over the world. The Macao section of this international event was organized by the Association of Stories in Macao (ASM) and sponsored by the University of Macau’s (UM) Pearl Jubilee College (PJC) where it was held. Some of Macao’s most eminent poets, including Lily Hand, Debby Sou and Hilda Tam, attended the event and read their works. Chris Song, a recent master’s graduate of UM and published poet, also read along with two academic staff members Prof. Kit Kelen and Prof. Yao Jingming.
This event celebrates peace, sustainability, and community through creative endeavour. Despite the ubiquity of this event worldwide, there is probably only one location where works were read in Chinese (Cantonese & Putonghua), Portuguese and English, giving this small corner of the world a unique flavour and an unusual content. Both visitors and PJC college members thoroughly enjoyed the event, and they look forward to participating again in one year’s time.
