Sheng Mei, a PhD candidate of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau (UM), who is also a guest fellow of Cheong Kun Lun College, recently participated in a cultural performance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macao’s handover to China.

Sheng Mei was one of the three lead singers who performed the song ‘Brave the Waves and Set Off’, which conveyed the hope of people from greater China, including Macao, to pursue a bright future together. Sheng Mei’s elegant, clear, and intimate voice left a deep impression on the audience.

Sheng Mei is an outstanding vocalist in China. She obtained her master’s degree under the instruction of Prof Jin Tielin, a famous vocal teacher in mainland China and the honorary dean of the China Conservatory of Music. Sheng Mei has won multiple gold awards at various singing competitions in China, and has held solo concerts in various cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai. She has also traveled to France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore to perform or serve as a judge on international vocal competitions. At UM, Sheng Mei has also given music lectures to teach students how to develop a good voice and how to sing better. Her lectures have been well received by faculty members and students.
