As part of the University Lecture Series, the University of Macau (UM) will hold a talk titled ‘Geometry Is a Singular Subject’ on Tuesday 7 November. Richard Schoen, Excellence in Teaching Chair at the University of California at Irvine, will be the speaker. During the talk, he will discuss how singularity, a concept in mathematics, is applied in a significant amount of current research in differential geometry, encompassing topics ranging from corners which arise in optimal networks to black holes in general relativity. He will also explain the concept of singularity in simple language and present some examples. All are welcome to join the talk.
The talk will start at 4:00pm in the Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Business Administration (E22-G013) and will be conducted in English. Interested individuals can register at https://isw.um.edu.mo/evm/register/uls_schoen. For enquiries, please call 8822 9099 or email uls@um.edu.mo.
