The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Business Administration and the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) recently co-organised a seminar on the development the modern financial industry in Macao and related career opportunities. The event aimed to help university students learn more about the current development and prospects of the modern financial industry in Macao, which would not only help them plan their careers, but also contribute to the development of the financial market between Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
In his speech, Chan Sau San, chairman of the Board of Directors of AMCM, said that the monetary authority would continue to provide pre-employment education and on-the-job training for Macao residents. It will also introduce professional qualification examinations in accordance with the established plan for finance talent training, and will combine the resources of higher education institutions, training organisations, international associations for professional qualification, and the financial industry to nurture more finance professionals with up-to-date knowledge and international standards and lay a solid foundation for the development of Macao’s financial industry.
Michael Hui, vice rector of UM, said that the university would continue to support the SAR government in developing the modern financial industry. In recent years, the university has recruited outstanding academics in finance from around the world to enhance its teaching and research capabilities. In addition to increasing the number of places in the Master of Science in Finance programme and the Master of Science in Financial Technology programme, the university has been actively involved in the training and certification of industry practitioners in Macao. Speakers at the seminar included representatives of AMCM and financial industry practitioners.
