Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) and Help Therapeutics recently signed a strategic collaboration agreement on the establishment of a joint laboratory. According to the agreement, both parties will build a research and development (R&D) platform for regenerative medicine studies at the R&D centre for Chinese medicine and translational medicine of ZUMRI located at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao, in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The collaboration aims to contribute to the development of the biomedicine industry in the cooperation zone and the collaborative development of Guangdong and Macao. The project will be carried out by researchers of ZUMRI, a team led by UM Faculty of Health Sciences Associate Dean Chen Guokai, and members of Help Therapeutics. According to Chen, cell transplantation has become a potential treatment for degenerative diseases of the elderly thanks to the increasing development of stem cell technology. For this reason, his team set up a joint development project with Help Therapeutics to combine their technical strengths in research studies of degenerative diseases, in order to further promote the development of the cell therapy industry and the transfer of biomedical research results.
