The Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of University of Macau (UM), organized a student trip on November 15, 2008 to Hong Kong to participate in “The 2nd Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop 2008” hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University.
Led by Dr. Li Xiaoqin and Dr. Angela Chang and sponsored by the University, the 20-member group included undergraduate and graduate students of English Communication and Journalism and Public Communication. The students were deeply impressed by lectures given by several Pulitzer Prize Winners including Liu Heung Shing, 1992 winner for Spot News, Gregg Fields, 1993 winner for Public Service, Leon Dash, a 1995 winner for Explanatory Journalism, David Cay Johnston, 2001 winner for Beat Reporting and Steve Fainaru, 2008 winner for International Reporting.
The Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop is organized annually by the Department of Journalism, Hong Kong Baptist University, to broaden the vision of journalists and journalism students in Greater China and to enhance journalism education. Each year, four to six Pulitzer Prize winners were invited to the campus for a two-week series of intellectual activities. The theme of this year is “Inspiring Future Journalists.” This is the first time that UM students participated in the workshop.
