The Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement (CTLE) will host a workshop “Hints for a Successful Career in Academia” from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on 18 November 2010 at the Ho Yin Convention Centre HG 01, University of Macau. The workshop will be presented by Prof. Margaret Semrud-Clikeman, an award-winning teacher and researcher from one of the most well-known universities in the world, Michigan State University.

Prof. Semrud-Clikeman is a prolific scholar who has published more than 40 articles, 450 chapters and presentations, and 5 books. She is currently a professor at Michigan State University with a joint appointment in Psychology and Psychiatry, and is working on research in ADHD and Autistic Spectrum disorders. She and her students have developed a social competence intervention that has been successfully piloted, and has directed a Neuropsychology Clinic for almost 30 years.

This workshop is designed to discuss several aspects of becoming a scholar / researcher / teacher. As such it will provide the attendees with basic information about what is involved in an academic career. There will be a discussion about how to begin a scholarly programme, how to construct a curriculum vita, what is expected of a beginning, mid-level, and senior academician, and how to balance conflicting time demands from the position, students, and home. Vignettes will be provided as well as sufficient time for a question-and-answer period.
