A delegation led by Bai Zhijian, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, recently visited the University of Macau’s (UM) new campus. UM Rector Wei Zhao updated Bai on the latest development of the new campus. Wei Zhao said that the new campus came under the jurisdiction of Macao SAR on 20 July, the commencement-of-use day, adding that the construction and relocation are a huge, complicated undertaking, and the relevant work has been proceeding in an orderly manner thanks to the great support of the governments of Guangdong and Macao SAR. Bai noted that the new campus project is a landmark project that explores a new mode of collaboration between Guangdong and Macao, plays an exemplary role in the future development of higher education in Macao and China, and is a reflection of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. Bai added that in recent years UM has set the clear goal of becoming a world-class university and he believes the new campus will provide favourable conditions for UM to achieve that goal. Bai expressed his hope that UM can seize the wonderful opportunity brought by the new campus to continue to foster well-rounded graduates for Macao and beyond.
