Two fourth-year students, Wu Tat Leong and Hoi Chan Kit, from the University of Macau’s (UM) Department of Psychology, recently received Student Research Awards at the Fifth ASEAN Regional Union of Psychological Societies (ARUPS) Congress for their latest research findings. The awards were limited to top student presenters among more than 120 applicants. The international recognition is testament to the high quality of research results achieved by UM students in the field of psychology.

The students were led by Department of Psychology assistant professor Dr Brian Hall, and research assistant Sou Ka Lon from the Global and Community Mental Health Research Group. The two scholars also gave talks at the conference

At the conference, Tat Leong Wu and Chan Kit Hoi presented two research projects titled ‘The role of health and social capital on elderly depression in Macao’ and ‘The Association between social resources and depression symptoms among Chinese migrants and non-migrants living in Guangzhou, China’, respectively.

Held in Singapore, the ARUPS Congress was focused on topics related to clinical, organisational, educational, and developmental psychology.
