The University of Macau’s (UM) Honours College (HC) recently organised a study trip to Beijing and Inner Mongolia, at the invitation of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR. The study trip aimed to help students better understand China’s political, economic, and cultural developments. Liaison Office’s Department of Culture and Education Deputy Director General Pu Hailong, HC Dean Mok Kai Meng, and 19 HC students joined the study trip.

At Peking University in Beijing, students attended a series of lectures on a wide range of topics, including the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, and cultural and creative industries. They also visited the Committee for the Basic Law of the Macao SAR under the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and the China Communications Construction Company Limited.

In Inner-Mongolia, students met with local officials of the National Development and Reform Commission, and experts on cultural affairs, to learn more about the economic, ethnic, historical and cultural aspects of Inner Mongolia. The delegation also visited a local secondary school and Manzhouli, the Chinese border city with Russia.
