The University of Macau’s (UM) Publication Centre has published a new book on news framing of major events in China. Prof Chen Huailin from the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, is the chief editor of the book.
The book consists of 13 empirical studies of major events which happened in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao in the early 21st century and which were covered in the mainstream media in the Greater China region and beyond. The book provides a comparative study of the different types of news frames and explores how news framing is influenced by various factors, including ideology, regional culture, the nature of the media organisation covering the news, and the target audience. Besides being a useful reference book for academics and students of journalism and communication, the book also provides food for thought for those who are in the habit of following current events.
It is the first book published by UM’s Publication Centre in 2016. It is available in the various bookshops in Macao.
