Source: Trial Use Express

Trial Use Express is prepared by UM Reporters and reporters of the student newspapers UM Reflection Monthly, and Orange Post, with the purpose of keeping all UM members and other stakeholders posted on the latest progress of the new campus during the trial use period.

Yesterday (22 August) was the second and last day of the new campus trial use. Participating students reported that overall they felt very pleased with the facilities and living conditions on the new campus as well as the arrangements about this trial use activity, saying that the new campus is much larger than the current campus and just a few days of trial use already gave them a taste of a genuine campus life. They also gave some feedback and made a few suggestions for improvement. About the fire drill, a student said that the alarm was not sufficiently loud compared to fire alarms she had heard before. Another student said that the hot water in the bathroom was not hot enough. A female student named Sandy said the rooms are larger and the living environment is better than the current campus, but the noise of the refrigerator near the bed affected her sleep, and the wardrobes are smaller than those in the East Asia Hall on the current campus. Doris and her friend said that they found this trial use activity very useful, and it would be even better if it could last one month instead of just a few days. They also felt that the colours of the furniture in the residential college are not the best match. Another student Glenn said that the air conditioner was regretfully not located between the two beds and the air was not cold enough so he had to pulled out the bed a little bit to get the cold air. Natal Shikongo from Namibia said he found it strange that the lock of the bathroom door was on the inside. He thinks it’s a good idea to provide a refrigerator in the room and he said he wasn’t affected by its noise. Overall, participating students felt very pleased with the facilities and living conditions on the new campus as well as the arrangements about this trial use activity.
