The University of Macau’s (UM) Korfball Team was the third runner-up at
the First Asian University Korfball Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan, from
14 August to 18 August. Numerous strong teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and
mainland China took part in the championship, including Taipei University of
Education, Taiwan Normal University, Shih Chien University, Tianjin University
of Science and Technology, Zhengzhou University, Southwest University, Hong
Kong University of Science and Technology, and Seoul University of Education.
After the single round robin series, the championship was divided into premier
division and challenge division. UM’s Korfball Team placed fourth in the challenge
division. One member from UM’s team was elected Best Star Player, along with 11
other athletes. The championship was organised by the Chinese Taipei Korfball
Association. UM’s team was led by Prof. Haydn Chen, vice rector for student
affairs, and Dr. Patrick Chan Ping Cheung, director
of the Office of Sports Affairs.
