The China Mainland
Students’ Association (CMSA), which is under the University of Macau (UM) Students’
Union, has kicked off its third course in elementary Cantonese tailor-made for
mainland students studying at UM. Ever since it was first launched in 2011, the
course has been very popular. This year 103 students enrolled for the course,
five times more than expected. The course will last for nearly two months, and
CMSA hopes that after completing the course, participants, even those with zero
prior knowledge of the dialect, will be able to handle simple daily
conversations in Cantonese.
