The University of Macau (UM) Student Affairs Office and the Best Buddies Macau Association have been collaborating since 2014 to provide services for people with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD) by matching them with student volunteers to build one-to-one relationships. The activity aimed to help students understand the needs of those with IDD and encourage them to give back to society. Huang Xiaowei, a second-year student of hospitality and gaming management; Fong Weng Ka, a third-year student of psychology; and Huang Zhongyu, a first-year student of biomedical sciences, are members of the Best Buddies Programme (UM Chapter) and have organised many service learning activities. Huang says that she has learned to see things from other people’s perspectives.
