The fourth meeting of the Second Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (QRCM Lab) was held today (16 January) at the University of Macau (UM). During the meeting, committee members recognised the lab’s research achievements in the past year and agreed that the lab attained breakthroughs at different levels in quality research in Chinese medicine.
According to Cheang Kun Wai, member of the Executive Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), research in Chinese medicine plays an important part in the innovation-driven growth strategies of both mainland China and Macao. Through years of hard work, especially since the establishment of the QRCM Lab, research in Chinese medicine in Macao has not only acquired distinctive characteristics, but has also made a greater impact in the international academic community. In response to China’s decision to develop the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the FDCT has been providing support for local research institutes and pharmaceutical companies in their collaboration with the Chinese medicine industrial park on Hengqin Island.
According to Ge Wei, vice rector (research) of UM, Chinese medicine research has been one of the most important and fruitful areas of research at UM. In recent years, the lab has published many academic papers in prestigious international journals and has received multiple awards in China and abroad. The lab has also strengthened support for technology transfer, in response to the Macao SAR government’s plan to develop the Chinese medicine industry as well as to promote the diversification of Macao’s economy. In the future, UM will continue to work with the government and well-known institutes in China and abroad to promote the industrialisation of Chinese medicine.
