A delegation led by Qiu Shuiping, party secretary of Peking University, recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by UM Rector Yonghua Song. Both parties discussed the results of two universities’ partnership and opportunities for further collaboration.
During the meeting, Song told the guests about UM’s history, campus facilities, academic structure, and the four factors that make UM so special: its location in a special administrative region, its special mission, special status, and a special model of education. Song added that UM and Peking University had a lot of successful collaborations in the past and expressed hope that both parties would continue to strengthen collaboration by taking advantage of the opportunities brought by China’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Qiu spoke highly of UM’s progress and achievements as well as the partnership between the two universities. He mentioned the Macao government’s plan to develop the city into ‘One Centre, One Platform, and One Base’ as well as Macao’s role as a ‘bridge of communication’ between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and Europe, saying that Peking University hopes to continue to work with UM to promote higher education development. After the meeting, the delegation visited the university library and other landmarks on campus.
