The University of Macau (UM) today (17 October) held a talk titled ‘Superconductivity and I’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Prof Paul Chu, a renowned physicist, was the keynote speaker. During the talk, he discussed the history of superconductivity and shared his research stories. The talk attracted many people, including UM faculty and students, as well as secondary school teachers and students.

In his speech, Rector Yonghua Song said that the relationship between Prof Chu and UM can be traced back to 2006 when Prof Chu received a Doctor of Science honoris causa degree from UM. Prof Chu is known for his achievements in the fields of superconductivity, magnetism, and dielectrics. He is a professor of physics, TLL Temple Chair of Science, as well as the founding director and chief scientist of the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston (TCSUH). He is also the honorary chancellor of the Taiwan Comprehensive University System, and president emeritus and university professor emeritus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Prof Chu talked about the history of superconductivity and shared his life stories from the perspective of physics. He also encouraged the students to find their passions in life and make plans to achieve their goals.
