The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) held the ‘Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macao SAR—Conference on “Economic Development, Social Change and Cultural Innovation”’. The conference brought together experts and scholars to review the achievements and challenges in Macao’s economic, social, and cultural sectors.

Speaking at the event, Yonghua Song, rector of UM, said that with the strong support of the country, the Macao SAR Government has fully and accurately implemented the ‘one country, two systems’ policy and the Basic Law. With the concerted efforts of all sectors of the community, Macao has made remarkable progress in terms of economic and social development and achieved great success. He added that UM will continue to serve the community by addressing the challenges and issues facing Macao’s development and actively proposing solutions.

The conference consisted of a keynote session and two panel discussions. At the keynote session, four speakers from Sun Yat-sen University, UM, the Macau Development Strategy Research Centre, and the Macau Economic Association, delivered speeches on topics related to Macao’s role and future development. The panel discussions brought together 11 experts and scholars from Guangdong and Macao to discuss the current state and future of Macao’s economic development and regional cooperation, as well as social change and cultural innovation.
