Today (11th) the University of Macau (UM) held the launching ceremony for the Future Studies and Placement Centre (FSPC) and the establishment ceremony for the Future Studies and Placement Advisory Committee (FSPAC) at the Adelson Advanced Education Center of UM in Venetian Resort Hotel. The purpose of establishing FSPC is to encourage students to pursue further study and to provide assistance to students in their job-hunting process. The establishment of FSPC will allow UM to provide more tailor-made further study and placement services.
The main purpose of establishing FSPAC is to provide UM students with advice on career planning so as to further increase their competitiveness on the job market. Apart from the “UM Fly High Project”, “Preparation Courses for Graduate Admission Tests”, “Alumni Mentorship Scheme”, “Career Training Workshops”, further study and career counselling and consultation services, and fairs and talks about further study and career development, a small reading area will be available for students to access reference books and videos to obtain the latest information on further study and the job market. Students can also browse the Internet for job vacancies or other information.
UM Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Prof. Simon Ho will serve as Chairman of FSPAC. Other members of FSPAC will include representatives from the Faculty of Business Administration of UM, Faculty of Law of UM, Faculty of Science and Technology of UM, Faculty of Education of UM, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of UM, Labour Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR, Tertiary Education Services Office of Macao SAR, Chinese Educators Association of Macao, Macao Chamber of Commerce, The Macau Institute of Engineers, Merrill Lynch Futures (Hong Kong) Limited, CTM, Wynn Resorts (Macau), S.A., HN Group Limited, Macau Convention & Exhibition Association, Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited, Bank of China, Alumni Association of UM, Postgraduate Association of UM, Students’ Union of UM, and Students Affairs Section of UM. FSPAC will hold meetings at least once every academic year to put forward suggestions about improving academic programmes as well as further study and placement services.
Following the opening ceremony was the inaugural meeting of FSPAC and the Forum on Future Studies and Placement Opportunities for UM Graduates. At the forum, five keynote speakers delivered speeches one by one, after which other attendees shared their opinions and put forward some suggestions regarding the subject matter.
