The University of Macau (UM) held the 24th UM Scholar Research Forum today (25 February), with Lu Jinjian, professor in the UM Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), as the speaker. Prof Lu gave a talk titled ‘Immune Microenvironment: A New Perspective on Chinese Medicine in Cancer Therapy’ to share his research findings. The talk attracted a full house, with many secondary school students and teachers attending online.
During the talk, Prof Lu discussed the long history and potential applications of Chinese medicine in cancer treatment. He shared his team’s recent discovery of how ginsenoside Rh2 and Tetrastigma hemsleyanum polysaccharides, compounds derived from Chinese medicine, enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy. He also explained the unique mechanisms and commonalities of these two substances in modulating the tumour immune microenvironment. The talk deepened the participants’ understanding of the role of Chinese medicine in tumour immune microenvironment.
