The Academic Symposium on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, jointly organised by the Centre for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the University of Macau (UM) and the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), was held at UM. Under the theme ‘Focusing on Macau, Embracing the Greater Bay Area’, the symposium brought together more than 40 experts, scholars, and policy researchers to discuss how to promote coordinated regional development, with the aim of enhancing Macao’s prosperity, and strengthening the overall competitiveness of the Greater Bay Area.
In his opening remarks, Hu Weixing, dean of FSS, highlighted the significance of the symposium. In his speech, He Junzhi, director of the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies of SYSU, emphasised the importance of integrating empirical, theoretical, and policy research in the study of the Greater Bay Area and strengthening cooperation among higher education institutions and research institutes in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The two-day symposium featured presentations and discussions on a range of topics, including social governance, institutional innovation, regional integration, economic diversification, and innovative practices in the Greater Bay Area. Participants described the symposium as both informative and engaging, adding that the event not only fostered cooperation and exchange but also provided multidimensional and interdisciplinary perspectives for future development.
