The University of Macau (UM) and the National Judges College held an opening ceremony for the 2024 cohort of doctoral and master’s students under the Training Programme for Chinese Senior Judges. This programme was launched by UM and the National Judges College in response to the national need for foreign-related legal talent.

The Faculty of Law of UM and the National Judges College signed a cooperation agreement in 2021, under which, 5 to 10 senior judges and 20 outstanding judges/assistant judges are admitted annually to pursue doctoral or master’s degrees in law at UM. Over the past three years, students in the programme have published papers in various core journals in both Chinese and English, achieving great academic success.

In his speech, Yonghua Song, rector of UM, congratulated the 5 doctoral students and 17 master’s students on becoming new members of UM, and encouraged them to excel and innovate in their studies and careers. Li Chengyu, president of the National Judges College, thanked UM for its support of the programme and expressed hope that the programme will continue to train legal professionals who are well-versed in international rules and regulations as well as foreign-related legal practices.
