To deepen exchanges between universities in Macao and Beijing, students and faculty from Yuanpei College of Peking University (PKU) visited Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) of the University of Macau (UM) for the exchange programme ‘Macau History and Culture Tour’. During the programme, students and faculty from both universities attended various lectures and experiential learning activities at the college, and visited several tourist attractions in Macao, promoting mutual exchange and understanding of Macao’s history and culture.

At the opening ceremony, Wong Seng Fat, interim college master of CYTC, and Li Boqiao, vice dean of Yuanpei College, both expressed their hope that through the exchange programme, students from both universities would inspire each other, grow together, and contribute to the development of both colleges. A student from PKU said that the exchange programme could broaden students’ international perspectives, promote cultural exchanges, and support the development of both colleges, thus laying a solid foundation for students’ growth and future development.

Guided by UM students and faculty, the PKU delegation toured the UM campus and the Gaming Laboratory of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming. They also attended the ‘Strings in Harmony’ concert held at UM, and visited the Ruins of St Paul’s, A-Ma Temple, Macao Grand Prix Museum, and Lotus TV Macau. Additionally, the PKU students sit in on classes at UM and participated in a series of workshops prepared by CYTC, including African drumming, Portuguese egg tarts and herbal tea making, and coffee brewing. Through these experiential learning activities, the students gained an understanding of the integration of Chinese and Western cultures in Macao.

Gong Yingxue, associate college master of CYTC, accompanied the PKU faculty members on visits to CYTC, as well as Choi Kai Yau College and Lui Che Woo College of UM. Faculty members from both universities held in-depth discussions on college operations, management, and educational platforms.

Since 2015, CYTC and Yuanpei College have organised student exchange programmes, building a strong partnership and deep friendship. In May this year, UM students and faculty visited PKU for exchange, and the return visit of PKU students this time further strengthened the friendship and cooperation between students of both universities, providing a deeper insight into the history, culture, local characteristics, and educational approaches of both cities.
