The University of Macau (UM) kicked off the two-day UM Career and Internship Fair 2023 today (23 March). Over 110 companies and organisations from various industries participated in this year’s fair, providing more than 3,000 job vacancies. The university has also organised a series of career guidance activities to assist graduating students in finding a job.

UM Vice Rector Mok Kai Meng expressed his gratitude to the participating companies and organisations for their continued support of the university and their recognition of UM graduates. He encouraged students to seize every opportunity, explore their career paths, continue to uphold UM’s motto ‘humanity, integrity, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity’, and reach for their goals and dreams step by step.

Carol Wong, a fourth-year student in UM’s Faculty of Business Administration, said that she learned from the fair’s website that the event offers job vacancies related to her academic background, adding that she hopes to learn more about the employment trends and the specificity of work in her field and seek job opportunities through the fair. Ivan Poon, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, said that the fair allows UM graduates to get in touch with different companies and learn more about the job market in Macao.

The Career and Internship Fair is an annual event of UM to help graduating students seek job opportunities and assist second-year and third-year students in finding summer internships. This year’s event offers job vacancies in areas such as banking and finance, information technology, cultural and creative technology, hotel and tourism, as well as retail and trading for students and alumni from different professional backgrounds. In addition, the university has organised a series of career guidance activities, including recruitment talks, ‘Mastering Your Job Interviews’ Workshop, ‘Resume Clinic’, and mock interview sessions, to help graduating students improve their job-hunting and interview skills.

According to UM’s Further Studies and Employment Survey for the 2021/2022 academic year, among those who graduated in the 2021/2022 academic year, more than 80% landed a job or pursued further education within three months after graduation. Among those who have been employed, 60 %received an offer before graduation. The median monthly income is MOP 15,000, and the top five industries where the graduates found employment were education (25.3%), banking/finance (14.2%), trade/wholesale/retail (8.3%), engineering (6.5%), and hotel (5.4%).
