Macao’s first autonomous bus recently left the University of Macau’s (UM) campus and entered the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to undergo a 17-day intelligent driving performance test on roads within the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao, where the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research (ZUMRI) Institute Phase II is located. This is the second time that the bus has entered the Cooperation Zone since 2020. The autonomous bus was developed by a research team led by Xu Chengzhong, dean of UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology and researcher of ZUMRI, with its members coming leading institutes and companies in the field of autonomous driving, including the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National University of Defense Technology, Baidu, and Haylion Technologies.
