The University of Macau (UM) is committed to promoting patriotic education. In addition to training courses for students, this year it has organised a series of in-house training courses in national affairs for nearly 1,000 administrative and academic staff.

The courses covered various topics, such as national security, the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy, traditional Chinese culture and wisdom, as well as the constitution of China and the Basic Law of the Macao SAR. These courses aimed to deepen UM staff’s understanding of the constitution, the Basic Law, the current development of the world, China, and Macao, as well as social development. The courses were also designed to strengthen participants’ national identity, social responsibility, and sense of belonging to China.

Speakers in the courses include Zhu Shoutong, head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts and Humanities; Lok Wai Kin, director of the Centre for Constitutional Law and Basic Law Studies, Faculty of Law (FLL); and Kong Wa, senior instructor of the FLL. Many participants say that they have learned a lot from the courses and hope to join similar training courses in the future.
