The Greater Bay Area Universities Drama Festival 2021 will kick off on 5 December online. From 5 December to 25 December, six original drama shows will be available for viewing on the internet. The festival aims to showcase traditional Chinese culture and values and promote theatre arts among university students in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
As 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the University of Macau (UM) and the 5th anniversary of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, the festival will feature UM’s motto ‘Humanity, Integrity, Propriety, Wisdom, and Sincerity’ as its main theme, and will showcase drama performances delivered by students from seven universities in the GBA, namely UM, the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shenzhen University, the Southern University of Science and Technology, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, and Wuyi University. The event is organized by Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, hosted by the Drama Society of the UM Students’ Union (UMSU), co-organised by Frost Ice Snow Creative Experimental Theatre, with assistance from UM’s Global Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office and UMSU, as well as the support from the Alliance for Technology Innovation and Talent Development in Western Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Originally scheduled to be held in June, the festival was postponed due to the rapidly changing circumstances of the pandemic.
All performances in the festival will be available for viewing online after the opening ceremony. For more information, please visit the official Facebook page or official WeChat account of the UMSU Drama Society, or the GAO’s home page at https://gao.um.edu.mo.
